083122 - Project Update

Here's what I've got so far for the fantasy appliance project. I turned the toaster oven into a 1960's mid-century modern-esque vacation home for utensil people. The overall concept narrows in on stereotypical gender roles through the utensil people in the foreground, and presenting them in this way is my version of showing the absurdity of these supposed roles.

In the next couple classes I want to work heavily on details and flesh out some of the areas that I think lack contrast or just aren't as detailed as I would like. Plus adding more furniture/stuff into the "house" itself might be fun :)

  1. I love your idea and how well done everything is so far. It already blends in so well. However, I am struggling to understand the utensil people stereotypical gender roles.

  2. I love how you arranged your composition, but I do think since it is in grayscale it would be helpful to push the lights and darks and create a better sense of foreground and background. I would suggest stepping far back from your computer and seeing where it would benefit to push and pull the contrast so it is a little easier to read and less busy.

  3. I think this is a really fun idea, making the toaster a house was a great idea because I think it fits the shape really well. The background makes the 'toaster house' even more convincing! I love the idea of the utensil people as well. Only thing I would really tweak is the contrast because I feel like it is a bit difficult to pick some things out

  4. Your idea is great!! It is a little difficult to pin point some things and some things are blending together a little too well I think. Maybe just add some darker tones. I also don't understand the gender roles of the utensil people.
